Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar
The local authority for the Western Isles, providing a full range of community services. The Comhairle owns Lews Castle and has delegated the challenge of rehabilitating the building to the Lews Castle Trust Steering Group.
Stornoway Trust
A democratically elected community land-owning body, established in 1923 under a deed of trust from Lord Leverhulme. The Stornoway Trust estate extends to 64,000 acres and includes the 600 acre Castle Grounds.
Lews Castle College
A partner in the UHI Millennium Institute, aiming for university status as the University for the Highlands and Islands. Lews Castle College started life as a technical college in the Castle and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2003. A new £12 million college campus was completed in 2000.
Western Isles Enterprise
WIE is one of 10 local enterprise companies in the Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE) area and delivers economic and social development, training, and environmental renewal support programmes in the Western Isles.
Scottish Natural Heritage
The government's statutory advisory body on the natural heritage. SNH is particularly interested in the management and potential of the Castle Grounds, currently designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Historic Scotland
The government agency responsible for safeguarding the built heritage of Scotland. Repairs, alterations or developments affecting the Castle require approval from Historic Scotland. The agency also provdes grant funding for repairs to Listed Buildings.
