DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
- Repair of the building envelope and conservation of the main historic fabric will allow for the development of a first class hotel and functions/events facility utilising most of the principal apartments. It is envisaged that part of the Castle would be subseqently leased for private sector operation, following a tender and negotiation process. The operator would be responsible for the fitting out and furnishing costs.
- At the back of the Castle, utilising most of the service quarters and extending into a new glazed structure, a new museum is proposed. The museum would present the rich heritage of the Islands as well as interpreting the story of Lews Castle and its place in local and wider history.
- Although in separate public ownership, there are also some 6 acres of former private gardens aimmediately adjacent to the Castle, with exciting potential for restoration and development.
- Other adjacent facilities include the Castle Green and Grounds, the Woodlands Centre, Lews Castle College, 18 hole golf course and Stornoway harbour.
